JESUP – MaryLou Hoppe, 88, of Rochester, MN, and formerly of Jesup, IA, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. – Friday, December 29, 2023, at Zion Lutheran – Jubilee Cemetery, rural La Porte City, IA.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. - Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

MaryLou was born March 15, 1935, in Storm Lake, IA, the daughter of Louis Otteman and Pauline (Lietz) Otteman. She graduated from high school in Varina, IA, and then attended and graduated from Beuna Vista College in Storm Lake. On August 31, 1969, she was united in marriage to Maurice Arthur Hoppe at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell, IA. MaryLou was a schoolteacher and first taught in the Aureila, IA, school system. She later was a substitute teacher at Jesup Community Schools in Jesup, and for almost 20 years was a assistant teacher at Wee-Care Day Care, hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, IA.

MaryLou is survived by her husband, Maurice Hoppe of Rochester, MN; one daughter, Krista Strum of Rochester, MN; one son, Jason (Laurie) Hoppe of Canal Fulton, OH; four grandchildren, Katherine Strum, Laure Strum, Aiden Hoppe, Benjamin Hoppe; and one sister, Donna (Michael) Buse of Houston, TX.

Her parents and one sister, Shirley Musgjerd preceded her in death.
