White Funeral Home JESUP - Dawn M. Koob, 49, of Jesup, IA, died, following a long illness, Friday, November 3, 2023, at UnityPoint – Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee, in rural La Porte City, IA. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery - Jubilee. Memorial Bell Ceremony will be provided by the Buchanan County Honor Guard. Celebration of Life Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and will continue for an hour before services, Wednesday, at the church. Dawn Marie Fischels was born February 3, 1974, in Waterloo, the daughter of Gary and Peggy (Meyers) Fischels. She graduated from Union High School in La Porte City with the class of 1992 and went on to Hawkeye Tech. for nursing. After earning her nursing certificate, she worked at Medical Associates in Independence, IA, as a nurse until her health forced her to retire in 2010. On September 11, 1999, she was united in marriage to Andy Joe Koob at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City. They made their home south of Jesup on the family farm where they raised their two sons. At the time of her death, Dawn was the assistant chief of the Jesup Ambulance Association. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee and was an assistant coach of the Jesup Archery Team. Dawn liked to quilt, garden, cook, and work on her diamond paintings. She loved being with her friends and family, but she especially loved being Wife to Andy and Mom to Jonathan and Dalton. Dawn is survived by her husband of 24 years, Andy Koob of Jesup; two sons at home, Jonathan Koob and Dalton (special friend Haylee Sparks) Koob; her mother, Peggy (Tom) Grutz of La Porte City; brothers and sisters, Amy Neith of La Porte City, Todd (Angi) Fischels of La Porte City, Chris (Mike) Pickering of Swisher, IA, Kathy (Curtis) DeGroote of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Julie (Duane) Kraus of Jesup; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Fischels; maternal grandparents, Bud & Bernice Meyers, paternal grandparents, Peter J. and Rosella (Huberty) Fischels; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Louise Koob. A memorial fund has been established and will be directed to the church, Jesup Ambulance Association, and a scholarship in Dawn’s name for the education of future healthcare workers.
