Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Friday, October 20, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee, rural La Porte City, IA. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories, Waterloo, IA. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19th, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services, Friday, at the church. Cheryl was born, July 16, 1938, the daughter of Dale and Darlene (Winkleman) Hummel. She graduated from Waterloo West High School with the class of 1956 and then attended Allen Nursing School in Waterloo, graduating in 1959. On September 12, 1959, she was united in marriage to James Raymond Patten at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Waterloo. She worked as a registered nurse at Allen Memorial Hospital until deciding to stay at home and be a homemaker. Jim and Cheryl moved to rural Jesup in 1976 and fell in love with the countryside where Cheryl helped Jim on the farm. She loved to bake cookies and affectionately became known as “The Cookie Lady.” She enjoyed putting puzzles together, solving crossword puzzles, fishing, cleaning, and mowing the lawn. Cheryl and Jim loved to travel the countryside looking for new places to eat. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and she enjoyed following their activities. Cheryl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee. Cheryl is survived by her son, Mark Alan Patten of Waterloo, IA; granddaughter, Amanda Jo (Shane) Farmer of Bozeman, MT; two great grandchildren, Maddox Stanley Farmer, and Lennox Jo Farmer; and her brother, Jerry LaVerne (Sue) Hummel of Waterloo, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Raymond Patten; one son, James Andrew Patten; one grandson, Daniel James Patten; and one brother, Terry Lynn Hummel.
