WAUKEE – David Alan Dilts, 72, of Waukee, IA, died Saturday, August 12, 2023, at MercyOne, West Des Moines Medical Center in West Des Moines, IA.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. – Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA.

David was born July 17, 1951, in Independence, IA, the son of Virgil Volney Dilts and Mary Jane (Mazur) Dilts. He graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1969. He then went on to Iowa State University where he studied and earned his degree in architecture. His career in commercial architecture took him to a number of different places, but for the majority of his career, he was in the Des Moines area. David’s life was his work, but David also enjoyed drawing, painting, and building miniature railroad buildings.

David is survived by his sister, Dawn (David) Wilson of Peoria, AZ; his nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and one sister-in-law, Mary Dilts of Ankeny, IA. His parents; and one brother, Thomas Dilts, preceded him in death.
