Independence– Earl Edwin Reth, 88 years old, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Alive Hospice in Madison, TN. He was born on January 7, 1923, in Delhi, Iowa, the son of William and Logina (Meiners) Reth. He attended school in Delhi. On March 17, 1955, he and the former Marjorie Lamb were married at the First Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa. They farmed in Buchanan County until retiring in 1997. Mr. Reth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa, and the Farm Bureau.
Mr. Reth is survived by his daughter, Mona (Ken) Walker of Hendersonville, TN, 2 grandchildren, Kimberly Walker and Melissa (Matt) Brunell, 1 great granddaughter, Madelyn Brunell, 1 brother, Melvin Reth of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and 3 sisters, Viola Reth of Delhi, Iowa, Verna Euwing of Palmer, Alaska, and Irene Curtis of Decatur, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marjorie, in 2008, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa, with Vicki Standley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.
White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 16th, at the funeral home.
