Independence – Winona J. West, 81 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Corridor Crossing Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She was born on March 4, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Neva (Oliver) Zimmerman, Sr.  She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids.  On September 16, 1960, she and Gene Marvin West were married in Cedar Rapids.  He preceded her in death in 2010.  Mrs. West worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids until she retired in 1995.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian church in Independence.  Mrs. West traveled the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.  She also enjoyed motorcycling and vintage car shows with her husband.  She could often be found working on crochet projects.

Mrs. West is survived by 3 sons, Steve (LaDonna) West and Edward (Deborah) West, both of Marion, Iowa, and Russell (Nicola) West of Winthrop, Iowa, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 sisters, Marianne Valliere of Washington, Linda Zimmerman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bonnie (Arlen) Brieholz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Carolyn Cumberland of Hiawatha, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 great granddaughter, 1 sister, Betty Gunder, and 3 brothers, Carl Zimmerman, Jr., Jerry Zimmerman, and Roland Zimmerman.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Dawn Person officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Visitation is from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 29^th, at the funeral home.  On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.  White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
