Jerry worked for area farmers and was a truck driver. In 1961 he bought his own trucks which he operated for 20 years. He hauled livestock for Dubuque Packing Co, and later, for Edgewood Oil and Edgewood Feed Mill. He enjoyed fishing, camping, yard and garden work, and wintering for 11 years in Florida. Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rita, 2 sons, Doug (Shelley) Maiers of Clarksville, Iowa and David (Tina) Maiers of North Liberty, Iowa, 2 daughters, Sharon (John) Coulter of Des Moines, Iowa, and Janet (Mitch) Rucker of Urbana, Iowa, 9 grandchildren, Jared, Tayler, and Jadyn Maiers, Andrew and Alex Coulter, Kara and Matthew Maiers, and Aleeah and Abbey Rucker. He is also survived by 1 brother, Wilfred (Maxine) Maiers of Des Moines, Iowa, 2 sisters, Marie Pasker of Edgewood, Iowa, and Dianne (Tom) Scherbring of Dyersville, Iowa, and 1 brother-in-law, Dean Tucker of Strawberry Point, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma and George Burkle, Irma and Ernie Kelchen, Virginia and Don Lee, and Grace Tucker, and 1 brother-in-law, Jim Pasker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
