Independence – Agustin Gonzalez, 80 years old, of Mitchellville, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville.  He was born on September 15, 1941, in El Paso, Texas, the son of Raymundo and Elis (Murillo) Gonzalez.  He attended school in California.  On February 14, 1977, he and the former Janice Ann Stoneman were married aboard the U.S.S. Princess Louise in Long Beach, California.  She preceded him in death in 1996.  Before retiring in 2003, Mr. Gonzalez worked for Duraco Plastics.  He enjoyed fishing and often took part in fishing tournaments.

Mr. Gonzalez is survived by 2 daughters, Julie (Andrew) Taft of Kansas City, Missouri, and Maria Huey of California, 2 sons, Jeff Gonzalez of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Henry (Chris) Gonzalez of Salisbury, Maryland, 15 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by 3 sisters, Rosa Helgeson of Lindsey, Oklahoma, Margaret Gonzalez of Alhambra, California, and Catalina Chacon of El Paso, TX, and 1 brother, Leo Gonzalez of California.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 1 daughter, Elisa Perez.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date and his cremated remains will be buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Independence.
