Independence – Larry F. Torgerson, 81 years old, of Independence, Iowa died on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  He was born on July 26, 1936, in Bode, Iowa, in Humboldt County, the son of Floyd and Lucille (Zumach) Torgerson.  He graduated from high school in Bode with the Class of 1954 and also completed the course of study at the Brown Institute of Industrial Electronics in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1965.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1962.  On September 27, 1969, he and the former Margie Ann Weber were married at St. John Catholic Church in Independence.  He worked at Rockwell Collins on equipment for the Apollo Missions and was a patrolman with the Iowa Highway Patrol for over 6 years.  After the patrol, he was an electronic technician for the Illinois Central RR. He retired in May of 2003.

Mr. Torgerson enjoyed all sports, but especially baseball and the Pittsburgh Pirates.  He also enjoyed looking for treasures with his metal detector.  He was always interested in trains, airplanes, and antique radios.  His family and friends believed if something needed to be fixed, Larry could fix it.

Mr. Torgerson is survived by his wife of 48 years, 2 sons, Mark Torgerson and Greg (Jennifer) Torgerson, both of Independence, 2 grandchildren, Cora and Jaxson Torgerson, 1 brother, Marlin (Ruth) Torgerson of Hutchinson, Minnesota, 2 sisters-in-law, Vicki (Dan) Kegler and Mary Kay (Kevin) Christensen, both of Independence, 3 brothers-in-law, Paul (Patricia) Weber of Algona, Iowa, Glenn (Teresa) Weber of Perry, Iowa, and Keith (Deanna) Weber of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother-in-law, Roger Weber and 1 nephew, Robby Weber.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at St. John Catholic Church in Independence. Rev. David Beckman will be the Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 6 p.m. and a Vigil Service begins at 7 p.m.  A Memorial Fund has been established.
