Independence – Leonard B. McClenathan, 87 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Lexington Estate in Independence.  He was born on April 19, 1930, in Madison County of Poweshiek County, north of Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Harry Blair and Esther (Leitzman) McClenathan.  He graduated from high school in Brooklyn.  On February 25, 1949, he and the former Rozena Elizabeth Hawkins were married in Marengo, Iowa.  She preceded him in death in 1997.  He married Evelyn Voland in 2000 in Independence and she preceded him in death in 2005.  And on February 14, 2007, he and Mildred Hicks were married in Newton, Iowa.  She preceded him in death in 2015.

Mr. McClenathan farmed and ran the Rush Park Café for a time.  However, he was mainly a long-haul truck driver before he retired in 1994.  He was a member of the Teamsters Union, The R&R Coffee Club, and the 1st Presbyterian Church in Independence.  He enjoyed taking pictures, gardening, and traveling the United States.  He had visited every state in the union twice.

Mr. McClenathan is survived by 3 sons, Robert (Nancy) McClenathan of Olney, Illinois, Dean (Kathy) McClenathan of Winona, Minnesota, and Jeffrey (Sharon) McClenathan of Omaha, Nebraska, 2 daughters, Cean McClenathan of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Diane (Stan) Tull of Marion, Iowa.  10 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by 3 brothers, George (Barbara) McClenathan of Blue Eye, Missouri, and Melvin (Phyllis) McClenathan and Elza McClenathan, both of Brooklyn, Iowa, 1 sister, Sylvia Hawkins of Marengo, Iowa, and several step children and step grandchildren.

In addition to his three spouse, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter-in-law, Phyllis McClenathan, and 1 step son, John Hicks.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31st, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
