Independence – Madonna D. Coulter, 83 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died at her home on Monday, August 15, 2016.  She was born on October 4, 1932, in North Dakota, the daughter of Paul and Irene (Ehr) Kerkove.  She graduated from high school in Jesup, Iowa.  On November 24, 1953, she and Billy Dean Coulter were married at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, Iowa, and they eventually made their home in Independence.  Mrs. Coulter’s primary interest in life was caring for her growing family of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She looked forward to attending the great grandchildren’s school events.  She also enjoyed line dancing with the Golden Gliders.

Mrs. Coulter is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill, 4 daughters, Diana (Edwin) Henderson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patricia (William) Nielsen of Marengo, Iowa, Carol (Robert) Quass of Independence, Iowa, and Janet (Timothy) Soukup of Rowley, Iowa, 4 sons, Randy (Nancy) Coulter and William Coulter, both of Independence, Iowa, Darryl (Kristie) Coulter of Cape Coral, Florida, and John (Sharon) Coulter of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 1 brother, John (Rose) Kerkove of New Hampton, Iowa, and 5 sisters, Shirley Bagby and Margaret Dilts, both of Independence, Iowa, Jeannette Kester and Barb (Robert) Fernald, both of Jesup, Iowa, and Mary Lou (Frank) Teel of Waterloo, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Alice Fernau, and 2 grandchildren, Erin Henderson and Dean Roepke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Rev. David Beckman will be the Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Parish Rosary begins at 3 p.m. and a Vigil Service begins at 7 p.m.
