Independence – William J. Dunn, Jr., 71 years old, of Independence, died on Friday, July 1, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.  He was born on June 26, 1945, in Miami Beach, Florida, the son of William James Dunn, Sr., and Alvina Helen (Dall) Dunn.  He graduated from high school in Osceola, Iowa, and then graduated from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa.  On August 12, 1967, he and the former Barbara Ann Madill were married at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls.  Mr. Dunn started working as a meat cutter at the Fareway Grocery Store in Iowa Falls.  They moved to Independence in 1979.  He retired after 43 years with the company.

Mr. Dunn was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence and the Knights of Columbus Council #4332 in Independence.  He raised and showed pigeons and was a member of several pigeon clubs.  He also was a member of the Independence Mat Club and was honored as the Fan of the Year.  He followed high school wrestling and at one time was an official.

Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara, 2 sons, Jon (Kristina) Dunn of Monticello, Iowa, and Jeremy (Jami) Dunn of Marion, Iowa, 1 daughter, Jennifer (Wayland) Whitney of Marion, Iowa, and 9 grandchildren.  He is also survived by 2 brothers, Thomas (Jonnie) Dunn of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Patrick Dunn of Iowa Falls, and 3 sisters, Theresa (John) Phillips of Williamsburg, Iowa, Cathy Dunn of Aurora,Colorado, and Julia Dunn of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Angie Dunn, and 1 brother, Kevin Dunn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church inIndependence.  Rev. Donald Plamondon will be the Celebrant.  Friends may call for visitation from 5 p.m. until8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Vigil Service begins at 7:30 p.m.
