Independence – Kay F. Flaucher, 81 years old of Independence, IA, died Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence. He was born February 18, 1934 in Lamont, IA, the son of Karl Edwin Flaucher and Clara (Kann) Flaucher.  He graduated from Lamont High School in 1952 and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.  On May 4, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joan Margaret Higgins at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence.  At the age of 12 he started working as a meat cutter in Lamont and later worked at the Holder's Frozen Foods and at Corn Blossom/Iowa Ham in Independence.  He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and lifetime member of the VFW in Independence.

Mr. Flaucher is survived by seven sons, Greg (Kathy) Flaucher of Granite Falls, WA, Mike (Kathy) Flaucher of Independence, Terry (Lisa) Flaucher of Olathe, KS, Steve (Angie) Flaucher of Independence, Martin (Beth) Flaucher of Independence, Daniel (Lynette) Flaucher of Independence, and Randy (Kelly) Flaucher of Jesup; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Gordon (Joann) Flaucher of Langhorn, PA.

His parents; wife, Joan; three brothers, Harold, Gene and Marvin Flaucher; and three sisters, Rita Gaffney, Betty Connolly, and Gloria Flaucher in infancy, preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence with burial in the church cemetery.  Visitation 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 23 with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m., Military Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m.and Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. all at White Funeral Home, Independence.  Memorials will be directed to Bechter-Boise VFW Post #2440, Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post #30, St. John’s School and the Independence Garden Club.
