Independence – Edwin Russell Armstrong, 91 years old, of Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care, died on June 22, 2015.  He was born on August 22, 1923, son of Clarence and Vivian Armstrong of Hazleton, Iowa.  He married Delores Jean Robison on June 22, 1947, in Hazleton, Iowa.  She died in 2013.

Mr. Armstrong graduated from Hazleton High School in 1942 and attended Cedar Rapids Barber College.  He barbered in Hazleton and Oelwein before moving to Independence in 1952.  He owned and operated Armstrong Barber Shop on Main Street until he retired in 2002. Mt. Armstrong belonged to I.O.O.F. and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 58 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol (John) Lappe of Brandon, two grandsons, John G. Lappe of Waterloo and Marc (Jill) Lappe of Independence, three great granddaughters, two great great grandchildren and one cousin, Audrey Stark of Washington, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one son, Gary.

Private graveside services, officiated by Chaplain Ginny Bass, were held on June 25, 2015, with burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton.  White Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements.
