Quasqueton – Stephen Dwight Corkery, 70 years old, of Quasqueton, Iowa, died at his home on Wednesday, June 24, 2015.  He was born on November 14, 1944, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Dwight John and Gladys Martha (Grover) Corkery.  He graduated from St. John’s High School in Independence with the Class of 1963.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 until 1969 in Vietnam and Germany. Before retiring, he was a heavy equipment operator.  He was a member of the Rowley Historical Society and loved reading about history and politics.  He was good at repurposing garage sale finds.  He could figure a way to combine different things and make them useful again, usually as pieces of furniture or lamps.

Mr. Corkery is survived by 1 son, Stefan Corkery of Berlin, Germany, 2 daughters, Heather Corkery of Wisconsin and Raylyn Moore of Marshalltown, Iowa, and 2 grandchildren.  He is also survived by 7 brothers, Dan (Mary) Corkery and David (Brenda) Corkery, both of Rowley, Iowa, Ric (Debbie) Corkery, Craig (Vicki) Corkery, Dennis (Tami) Corkery, and Gary (Theresa) Corkery, all of Independence, Iowa, and Rob (Corrine) Corkery of Walker, Iowa, and 6 sisters, Cathy (Cal) Struchen of Toddville, Iowa, Pat (Bill) Offerman of Lamont, Iowa, Mary (Gary) Gallagher of Fairfax, Iowa, Linda (Mike) Hayward and Shelly (Dave) Tilley, both of Independence, Iowa, and Janette (Andy) Hopkins of Brandon, Iowa, and his special friend, Florence Ives of Quasqueton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Johnny.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Sharon Bainbridge officiating.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 26th, at the funeral home where a Parish Rosary begins at 3 p.m. and a Military Service begins at 7 p.m.
