Independence – Bernard F. Curry, 77 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  He was born on January 30, 1937, in Independence, the son of George Francis and Bernice Mary (McAreavy) Curry.  He graduated from high school in Jesup with the Class of 1956.  On August 24, 1963, he and the former Karla Kay Raine were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence.  Mr. Curry worked at John Deere in Waterloo for 34 and a half years.  He retired in 1992.  He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence and the U.A.W. Local #838.  He enjoyed all kinds of sports, but especially local school events with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a member of the Independence Mat Club and was honored as the Fan of the Year in 1989 and 2014.

Mr. Curry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karla, 1 daughter, Brenda Thompson of Independence, Iowa, 1 son, Jeff Curry of Lynchburg, Virginia, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by 2 brothers, Don (Debbie) Curry and Ron (Sharon) Curry, both of Independence, 2 sisters, Lois Hermsen of Independence, and Carol (Richard) Woolery of Eagan, Minnesota, and 1 sister-in-law, Diane Curry of Independence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Leonard Curry and LaVerne Curry, 1 sister, Roseann Curry, and 1 brother-in-law, John Hermsen.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Deacon Tim Post officiating.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery at a later date.  Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4th, at the funeral home.
