Independence – B. Elaine Strempke, 88 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at her home following a long illness.  She was born on May 25, 1923, in Littleton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Reinhart and Margaret Alice Hults Strempke.  She graduated from high school in Independence, Iowa, in 1941.  Ms. Strempke was a secretary at the Mental Health Institute in Independence and she also was the Manager of East Union Antiques in Independence.  She liked to crochet and knit and was interested in crafts in general.

Ms. Strempke is survived by 2 brothers, Clifford Strempke of Independence, Iowa, and Carl C. Strempke of Rustburg, VA, 4 sisters, Jayne White of Oregon, Illinois, Ruthe Gentry of Sandpoint, Idaho, Irene Kremer of Fairbank, Iowa, and JoAn Ramsey of Independence, Iowa, and 35 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Betty Ann Atwood, and 4 brothers, Clair Strempke, Clyde Strempke, Charles Strempke, and Clinton Strempke.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
