JESUP – Norma J. Westemeier, 79, of Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence, IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup.  Burial will be at St. Athanasius Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Monday, August 21, 2023, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a Catholic Daughter of America Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m., Monday.  Visitation will continue for an hour before the services Tuesday at the church.

Memorial donations may be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa, the Jesup Public Library, or a charity of the donor’s choice, in lieu of flowers.

Norma was born January 5, 1944, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Norman Harvey Schoonover and Loretta Nell (Cook) Schoonover.  She graduated from Waterloo West High School.  On April 11, 1964, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Bernard Westemeier at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA.  Norma worked many years as a salesclerk at Pamida in Independence.  She later worked as the cashier in the Hawkeye Community College cafeteria.  Norma was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Jesup and Catholic Order of Foresters in Gilbertville.  Norma was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing, playing scrabble, traveling, family and friends.  She and LeRoy also wintered in Texas for several years.

Norma is survived by three daughters, Lynda (Daniel) Cutsforth of Fairbank, IA; Anne (William) McClain of Fairbank, IA; Becky Burke (Ray Burke) of Jesup; 9 grandchildren, Ryan (Kasey) Westemeier, Elizabeth Kempf, Nicholas McClain, Abigail (Taylan) Sauerbrei, Emily (Richard) Snell, Allison Burke, Grace Ann Cutsforth, Emma Cutsforth, Sarah Burke; 4 great grandchildren, William Kempf, Leo Kempf, Tate Westemeier, and Isla Westemeier; two brothers, Roger (Sandi) Schoonover of Waterloo, IA, and Keith (Kayleen) Schoonover of Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Marjorie Schoonover; and her husband, LeRoy, who died January 13, 2023.
