INDEPENDENCE – Anna Mae (Mumford) Crawford, 93 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Lexington Estate in Independence. She was born on May 9, 1929, in Rowley, Iowa, the daughter of John Thomas and Jessie (Bushell) Mumford. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1947. On November 25, 1951, she and Caryel Otis Crawford were married in Independence. He preceded her in death in 2017.

Mrs. Crawford was a telephone operator before her marriage and in later years, she was a CNA at East Towne Care Center in Independence - but she spent most of her time caring for her family. She enjoyed quilting with a group of friends at her church, reading, and gardening. She also kept a running record of family events in scrapbooks and journals. Watching sporting events and working needle point were also favorite activities. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.

Mrs. Crawford is survived by 2 daughters, Carol Koohy of Yakima, Washington and Brenda Johnson of Independence, 6 sons, Steven (Denise) Crawford of Gilbert, Iowa, Dennis (Mary Ann) Crawford and Wade (Jean Ann) Crawford, both of Independence, Randy (Tammy) Crawford of Solon, Iowa, Brent (Jennifer) Crawford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Lee (Jane) Crawford of Owatonna, Minnesota. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Doris Budzine and Esther Oline, both of Independence.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons-in-law, Al Koohy and Wayne Johnson, 1 daughter-in-law, Marj Crawford, 2 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Frances Bantz, and 1 brother, Franklin Mumford.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Visitation will be from 4 to 7p.m. on Wednesday, April 19th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
