Hazleton – Deon L. Moore, Sr., 64 years old, died on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at his home in Hazleton, Iowa.  He was born on August 26, 1958, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Sherman and Marlene Mary (Burget) Moore.  He attended school in Independence, Iowa.  Mr. Moore was a mechanic and did automotive body work.  He retired in 2016.  For the last 15 years, he and Effie Maxine Moore have made a life together.  He called her as his wife.  He enjoyed fishing and drawing.  He also enjoyed traveling with his friends on their motorcycles.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Maxine, 6 children, Latasha (Chad) Cookinham, Amanda Hernandez, Larinda Moore, Derrick Moore, Deon Moore, Jr., and Quincy Moore, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.  He is also survived by 4 brothers, Stuart Young of Waterloo, Iowa, Brock Young of Waverly, Iowa, Jesse Young of Waterloo, Iowa, and Craig (Nancy) Coventry of Independence, and 4 sisters, Carletta (Dale) Ginther of Jesup, Iowa, Jean (Jerome) Wilson of Waterloo, and Sherill Cain and Michele Rose, both of Independence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Phyllis Coventry Hookom, 1 sister and 2 brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with John Kies officiating.  Burial will be in Old Barclay Cemetery in Jesup.  Visitation is from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, December 19^th, at the funeral home in Independence.
