Jesup – Ronald M. Ehr, 89 years old of Lexington Place in Independence, IA and formerly of Jesup, IA, died of natural causes, Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will have private family visitation on Friday, May 15, 2020 at the White Funeral Home, 1315 Main Street, Jesup, IA.

With safety for all in mind, but still share Ronald with extended family and friends, the family encourages you to drive through the funeral home driveway to view and say goodbye to Ronald, through the bay window, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15th.  Please be ready with your names on a piece of paper for collection.  A collection site for cards will be provided as well.  Stay safe, in your cars and observe the social distancing mandates.  The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary on Friday at 5:00 p.m. which can be heard on your car radio.

There will be a private family funeral service for Ronald Ehr held at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020.  The service will be Live Streamed on the church website.  www.saintaparish.com then click on the first button for YouTube.

Following the service, Ronald will be laid to rest at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery in Jesup, with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup.

Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic School and St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.  Memories and condolences may also be shared on the funeral home website.  www.White-MtHope.com

Ronald was born May 23, 1930, at Jesup, IA, the son of Irvin Nicholas Ehr and Marie Dorothy (Staebell) Ehr.  He attended Jesup schools and later served in the US Army during the Korean War.  On September 1, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Schmitz at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville, IA.  Ronald farmed and also was a Pioneer Seed Corn Dealer in Jesup for many years.  He was a Member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #8227, Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 and had served on the board of directors for Farmers State Bank, all in Jesup.  He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters in Gilbertville.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Ehr; 1 daughter, Patricia Balko of Cottage Grove, MN; one son, Michael (Susan) Ehr of Jesup, IA; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one brother, Irvin “Jim” (Patricia) Ehr of Independence; two sisters, Mary (Richard) Vogel of Independence and Marlene Choudoir of Oro Valley, AZ; also one sister in law, Jeanene Ehr of Jesup.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Ehr and Fr. Donald Ehr.
