Independence – Donna J. Hall, 88 years old, of Independence , Iowa , died on Thursday, November 22, 2018 , at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She entered this world on October 7, 1930 , at Peoples Memorial Hospital in Independence , the daughter of Verneita and Darwin Bright Rhodes. She moved to Waterloo with her mother where she attended West High School. They returned to Independence when Donna was 14 and she resumed her education in the Independence Public Schools.

Donna married the love of her life, Robert Holmes Hall, on September 5, 1948 , at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where Bob attended college and Donna graduated from West Des Moines High School in 1950.  She worked at Doane Agricultural Digest until Bob graduated from college, when they returned to Independence. Donna worked at Lane Insurance for 30 years. Bob preceded her in death in 2004.

Donna was a member of the Wapsipinicon Golf Club where she enjoyed many good rounds of golf and some rousing bridge games.

She was a member of the Independence Chamber of Commerce, the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, and Immanuel Lutheran Church .  At Immanuel Lutheran she served on the Ladies Aide Society, sang in the choir, and was a Lector.

Donna and Bob loved to travel and spent many winters enjoying the Arizona sunshine.  She was an avid Hawkeye fan and never missed a football game.  Many years she watched at Kinnick Stadium and then in later years, at home.  Donna never met a dog she didn’t love.

Donna is survived by a cousin Bernadine Dinderman of Minnesota , many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives, and many good friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 2 cousins, Lauren Gissel and Daryl Gissel.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 , at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence .  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26^th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
